MERRY CHRISTMAS

Over the holidays, I experienced having a family again. Not just one but two! Weve been living our lives so far away from them for the past year. I use to remember when I was a kid that we cant live without them. We use to cry because we have to go to school and leave them...and then we grew up! When we reached the age of 12, we hate being kissed by our parents in public! yuck! That would be a total disaster.

But now, since we long so much of the warmth of being with them, we cherish every moment spent. Nevermind if they nag. Its ok. What is a month anyway? we lived with them most of our lives.

So whats keeping us busy? Wedding preparations. We didnt get any rest since we got here. Money is like sand in an hour glass...we only hope that when it runs out, and we start to tilt it, there would still be sand pouring down. I believe that its a cycle! in shala!!!

Last night, I spent the night at Lany's place. Noche Buena is a happy one for this family. Eversince Lany and her sis worked abroad, the family was not complete since then. Only last night! Her parents are so happy! Especially mama Mila.

I on the otherhand is happy just watching them....I wonder what happened to them? We dont spend christmas anyway.

Anyhow, Happy Holidays to one and all!!!

And Happy Birthday Honey! You are Santa's gift to me.

love,
Dennis and Lany

WE'RE HOME!!!

December 18, 2004

We arrived in Manila in one piece! Its nice to see the country again. Although we have a lot of buisness to transact here. In a period of 2 days not much have been done. It's sad...we are behind schedule.

I already had my share of San Miguel Beer. There are only 3 beers that I like. Corona Extra, Miller Genuine Draft and our good old SMB light. Smooth! It goes down well on my throat, and not so heavy on the belly.

I met Lany's parents. They are cool! I did the "mano po" and called them mom and dad. Hehehe! I never thought the day would come that I would actually do that. I met her sister Che-che. She is nice...more talkative than my Honey-bunny! Hehehe! But talk is good! I never did like the silent type. It was funny when we were driving towards Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel. Daddy Tony would always tell Che-che to zip her mouth. But she was refused to do it! After dinner at Liquid, the van got noisier! I had a blast of their family's humour...the "Caras Family" style.

Later, we are going to do the pamamanhikan. My family will go to her place. O-MI-GOSH! This is the first time that I will be sitting in one room. I'm so nervous!

I am waiting for Lany at the mall in Cubao. We are suppose to meet at 9:30am at Jollibee. Its way past 11 and she still aint here. Might as well get a haircut and update the blogsite while I wait. It sucks to wait!

Ok. Its time to go to the saloon. Im crossing my fingers that they do justice to my hair. I've been maintaining the long hairstyle for sometime now. I will need to shave my goattee too! I look like a goon. See you guys later!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JINAN

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JINAN!!!

It's our favorite baby's 1st birthday today. Our beautiful cutie doll has become an adorable little arabian princess. I will be posting her picture here soon. There are no words to describe her. Of course she has taken the features of her dad Hameed Alawi...I just hope she doesn't look like her father when she grows up. Hehehe! Sorry siddiq!

Anyways, I just ate from the buffet here at the Alawi residence in Manama. Ate Fe (the mother) cooked a terrific set of pastries. I'm sure that Lany will love it when she gets here. Poor thing. She is stuck at the hospital until 10pm. She has already called me for the fourth time now. I bet she would like to get here asap.

CONFIRMATION CERTIFICATE

Can anyone tell me about this? Earlier I went to the Sacred Heart Church in Manama to claim her Confirmation Certificate. After examining the document, was surprised to see that it doesnt have the "FOR MARRIAGE PURPOSE" stamp on it. According to the secretary and the parish priest, the addition of this stamp is applicable here. So it is not a requirement. But how come Paco church is asking for a stamp? It doesn't make sense. Who is doing the right thing? Paco Church or Sacred Heart? I know that the Pope is reading my blog. So to you Mr. Holy See sir, you can email me at sinneddc@yahoo.com . And for anyone out there who knows about this, you are most welcome to write me one. I'm looking forward to hear from you guys.

SHORT BLOG

Yes! We are now counting the days for our trip back home. Yesterday we went shopping for a few essential items. A few things that the common OFW goes shopping for. Lots of soap actually. I don't know why our folks like them so much when they are bought from here. It is now available anywhere in pinas.

Im going to try and publish this short post. I sense that there is something wrong with the net today. I can't even access my yahoo mail. I would also want to announce that I have a new blog baby. Check it out at www.theblogeater.blogspot.com you might get a kick of what I will be writting there.

"S" HAPPENS

Sh!t happens!

A couple of days ago I was on fire writting good words and mentioning names that had made an impact on us. I have reached the length of a worthy blog to be published. But darn it! Right after I click "publish", the words "error in page" appeared on screen. And all my hard work is gone! It whipped my like Yoyong the typhoon did to your country men several days ago. It was a moment of s@*^!

So here I am a couple of days after that blog-mishap, sitting infront of the laboratory pc while waiting for the surgeon to make his grand entrance. It is raining outside when I left home. For sure Lany had forgotten to take yeterdays laundry this morning. We had attempted to take it last night but it's still damp. Now for sure it's soaking wet! And when I get to her place later she will be fuming mad!

(45 mins after the operation)

I'm back from the operating room! There was a big fuzz with the urologist being 20 mins late. It surely pissed the anesthetist. But who isn't on the edge now a days? Me and Lany on the other hand have been like a "siamese fighting fish"over the past few days. Well, who wouldn't be? When your own relatives decide to diss you in the middle of the preparation to your OWN WEDDING, I guess you have the right to be mad. Poor Lany, whe was crying, and very frustrated over the entourage last night. Why? Because our Primary Sponsors list is like a ballot being counted after the election. Sometimes their names are in, and sometimes they are out. Who has the right to make decisions to this wedding anyway? If there is anybody who should call the shots IT'S US! I don't want to go to details anymore. We just want to express our disappointment with the rest of the brood!

We would like to extend our thanks to our friends who expressed their concerns over us. You guys are so sweet! Marianne Manalo and Evelyn Dabu (Lany's close friends), called a "barangay chat", when they heard about our flight sched being cancelled. I called it "barangay chat" because they are like a barangay capt and his men, calling out an emergency meeting. You guys are cool!

Later on I will be checking my part of the guest list. Our budget dictates that we can only invite 200 guests. It is extremely difficult to pick and eliminate the ones that you love. We have read articles over this matter. It say's that we should give priority to close relatives and close friends in choosing. We should also take in great consideration our suppliers (for example the quartet, photo and video etc.) that will be present on that day. Like Philip said, "you can't make the photographer hungry! Or else he will take horrible shots." And so, to our relatives that won't be invited, we are very sorry! We can only wish that it is possible to accomodate all of you. We hope that you understand.

On the otherhand, there are a handfull of friends that we wish could be there, but can't. CJ Blase, my dear friend and constant chat mate. You have been wonderful to me. We never lost communication even after she went to the windy city. Gladys, who is now working in a laboratory beside the morgue in Jerssey. Me and the guys will miss you! You still are our baby sister with a baby.
To Ellen "Texan Ilocana", and Onat "Latik", Jhen Cusipag will be there in your behalf. Please get in touch with me.

Hmmm...the weather seem to have clouded up my mind. I wanted to write some more, but I can't think of anything. Winter in Bahrain has started about two weeks ago.Today, there is a little bit of rain. Its a nice day to sleep. Unfortunately, there is still work to be done. Time to space out for a while, and sip a cup of hot coffee before I start to work. Ta-ta!

ANGELS AMONGST MEN

Hi! As you can see, I have posted my friends pictures here! Maybe because I'm so excited to see them. The last couple of days had been a roller coaster ride for Lany and me. Last 17th of this month I went to my airline agent to confirm our ticket reservations. I was looking for the lady in charge of our company's ticket reservation but she wasn't there. Apparently on leave daw. So I guess its ok since she's only an agent. There are several tables in their office all occupied by smiley faced agents. All I have to do is pick one! And so I did. I went for the person nearest to me. She's Indian and nice, and have that plastered smile...and I'm confident that she knows what she's doing. And so I asked her to move our return trip to the 26th of January, just to have atleast a days rest before we go back to work. When she typed in slow-mo, I knew there is something wrong. And after serveral minutes of more typing she said, "It will be better If I come back on saturday because I'm not sure of something in your booking. The person in charge of your company's booking is on leave, and will be back on saturday. But everything is ok..." Then I told myself, shit there is really something wrong here! To make everything short, when I came back that week they told me that our reservation expired last week! The same day that I came to their office! I am so mad at that Indian girl! Because this isn't just a vacation, we are getting married! And of all the times that there will be a snag, it picked the most important time of our lives!!! If there was a complimentary shot gun in their office, I would have loaded it with a couple of 12 guage shells and BANG!!! However, it will be unfair to say that the entire House of Travel agency is a F*!$-up because of one rotten agent. Afterall, all my other bookings are efficiently well taken cared off. We must all be very careful of our dealings. (moral lesson #1)

How did we fix it? (okay! I said I will make it short. But if you want to find out what happened you have to read the long part of the story!)

I believe that there are angels amongst men. Not the ones with fancy wings, and carries a harp! Because any women can have wings (whisper with wings! hehehe!). I mean, I believe that there is good in everyone. Even from those who we don't expect to recieve a good deed from. Friends are Angels, and some men are angels. After our ordeal with the agency we called some friends that could help us. Someone who have connections from up above(....and when I say above, I meant Cathay Pacific... they own a portion of the skies you know. I will mention the "G" word later). We called Mrs. Weng Caday, a long time friend of ours. She is also our godmother when we get married (and we picked a good one!). She recomended us to BTTB travel agency, to Mr. Reggie to be exact, to help us with our problem. Reggie did a good job. (Very professional. Next time I travel I will go straight to this dude!) He made reservations to the several dates and he called Angelo Abonis of Cathay. Problem solved!

Sure, there was hope hanging in the air. Afterall, they managed to get us on the waiting list. But we aren't there yet! There is still something that has to be done! We decided to call several friends. Ate Babes was kind enough to say that "If nothing happens, call me!" We informed Ate Telly as well. She said "No problem, I will call my friend." All these "angels" are pointing to one person. The man in charge!

ANGELO ABONIS
Cathay Pacific
+973-17226226

He is the man of the hour. He made it possible to book us, eventhough we had an expired booking. So if you have a problem with Cathay Pacific, call this guy! It doesnt matter even if you are not in Bahrain. He can do wonders! He told me that Ate Telly and sister Mayeth called him up, to extend us a helping hand. (how nice of them! we owe you!)

There! This is my testament that there are angels amongst us. They may not have wings, but they have mobile phones! A phone call can be much faster than a physical flight you know. But more than that, we are glad that we are surrounded by friends. Thank GOD for giving them to us. We are truly blessed! al-hamdal-alah (Thanks be to GOD in arabic!)

On another topic, my friend Dr. Philip Lopez, and Dra. Zen Lopez have been reading this blogspot! Its a nice way to keep in touch di ba? Philip is my best man. That makes Zen the best woman of the groom! Please tell Richelle (can you believe that he wants to be called Ritchie?) to make himself useful and read this blog! He didn't greet me on my birthday this year! Not like the past years! Wala kwenta talaga! hehehe!!! joke lang!

Yours truly, Ritchie (sometimes I dont know who I'm referring to when I call him like this) and Philip have a way of roasting each other when we get together. Most of the time me make a secret alliance with one another and we ambush the third guy by roasting him! Very crispy!!! I guess we like embarassing ourselves in front of an audience. Good thing Mama Ester (Philips mama! Godmother to us also this January) is there to save me when the two evil boys have pinned me down. But now that I have the upper hand, I can tell the whole world how retarded you guys are! Bwa-ha-ha-haaaaaaaa!!! So be extra nice to me! That goes to you Dr. Lopez! Bwahahahahahaha! You told me that my cheeks are huge, just like a patient who just finished his dialysis session in our blog pictures. Cute! You ridiculed me with medical terms man! Galing! you really are a doctor. We are not finished yet! Har-har-har-har!!! (evil laughter)

Anyhow, my next blog is about the evil of mankind and my friends. Promise! For now my boss is coming back to the lab now. I don't want to be caught eating, or surfing the net here at lab...Again! I don't want to get in trouble with her before I go on vacation. I don't want to have any bad blood between us. I love my job!

To my honey, we'll get over this soon. Think positive! I love you!

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

Thanks a lot to those who responded to my last blog. I didn't expect that kind of response. especially from my friends whom I haven't seen for years. It only goes to show that friendship transends all barriers.

I'm convinced that a blogsite is a powerful communication tool, to send keep in touch with friends. Maybe not directly. But our friends become first audience and critic (thank God I only get good response!). And now, whenever I make a post, I keep in mind that whatever nonsense I write counts in bridging the gap between us. Like a satellite hovering above us.

So on a personal note to Shay and Gigi, thanks for keeping in touch. And thanks for being there when I needed help. Just like old times when mobile phones aren't available. We use to call each other and talk for hours. You guys are great! Keep in touch!

WORK ETHICS

What is your motto when you started to work? I'm sure that you picked or switched a job that you like so that you can continue working. Maybe you like the job and the people that you work with thats why you continue working. Well, whatever it is you didn't work just because of these reasons. You work because you need to support your daily needs. Or sometimes more...you need to support your family's needs.

I was mad when somebody told me that we work regardless of the pay. And because our nature of work gives us the benefit of gaining knowlege that nobody else can get access to. I would probably fall for that if I'm as rich as Bill Gates! Or if i wanted to be a priest and enter a vocation that pays you charity money. I have a lot of wants and a lot of needs. We work hard to get what we want. We work to upgrade our living conditions. To be comftable enough to eat more than 3 times a day, and watch satellite tv for at least an hour. Its a shame when our employers put us down and not care about us. Shame on them!

MY BLOG WAS ERASED!!!

HI EVERYONE!!!

Before I explode and burn into ashes, I regret to inform you that the blog I uploaded last night was erased! Dear God, I swear I only used the spelling check to polish up that blog. But not only is this blog my reason for despair, we also have several concerns that hasn't been addressed yet. The plague is as follows:

1. CHURCH REQUIREMENTS- not yet completed. There is too much red tape going on within the family.
2. MARRIAGE CONTRACT- according to the Navotas Municipal Gov't, we should personally go to them and get it ourselves! Dios Mio! We are here in Bahrain and we can't possibly get it ourselves! Even if we do get home in December, the processing will be slowed down by the holidays.
3. INVITATIONS-believe it or not, up to now we still haven't got a supplier for this item.
4.MISALETTE- not even this.
5. DRESS FOR THE ENTOURAGE- if 1-4 isn't complete, I'm not surprised that this isnt either.

If we get any of these things done, especially number 1 & 2 we will be very happy. Unfortunately, we are only relying on special people to do this for us. We know that they too have obligations to themselves, and at home. But in our desperate case I really think we should take fast action.

To everyone who are trying to help us, thanks a million! You don't know how much these things mean to us.

And to honey, I wish you pleasant dreams and peace of mind. And for God sakes! stop crying! We will get through this I promise. I love you!

PRE-NUP PICS PART 2!!!

As if the first pictorial isn't bad enough, we decided to go for it again. This time we are armed by our own tripod! At 7 am we headed out to the nearest stretch of beach, THE OTHER SIDE OF SEASIDE! (I actually don't know what it's called. So pardon me for making up the name. Heehee!) The weather is actully nice and sunny...blinding-freaky-sunny! Compared to the last shoot, I felt like we are directly on the suns surface. Our pictures turned out like were chinese.

Anyhow, we were surprised to see a lot of pinoys fishing in beach area of the park. We felt embarassed to take pictures because we can understand what they'll be whispering about. Imagine the two of us possing like superstar telenovela stars. Like Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales. Claudine and Rico Yan....wait! he's already dead! Claudine and Raymart. Mahal and Jimboy. The other funny part is, there is no photographer! =< Our first location is the pier. We really don't know what it is but it looks like one. We possed, and in a matter of seconds we are prey to the fish folks! Everybodys face are turned to us. As if all the fish have all gone on our part of the beach. But who cares? I just told Lany to pretend to speak chinese when we got near them. So that they won't say that we're baduy, and not throw up!

We noticed that the first shoot was far better. We had more unique ideas. And our first location doesn't have an Indian guy lifting his skirt up as he goes into the water. But to be serious, the park has limited attactions to offer, other than the beach.

In our last hour of shoot, we found a small spot and our sense of humor to end our session. It is really hard to focus when people are looking at you. I could only imagine our pre-nup pictures with Chito Vecina. I'm beginning to be very nervous! But the park bench, the odd looking tree and the other odd looking tree was enough to entertain us. We got a handfull of good pictures to show everyone. And eventhough the sun almost blinded us, I guess it's important that we had fun preparing for the one big day of our lives...our wedding!

PRE-NUP PICS & WEDDING RINGS

We are a very hands on couple. As much as possible we try to make our wedding as personalized as our own beds. We spend our free hours thinking of ways to make the wedding unique by trying to incorporate our persona in each items such as the invitation or the misalette or the cake. (Hi Alex Franco! Your dates are in safe hands! ; }

Through each day that I spend with my Hunny during the preparation, I can see so much excitement in her. SHE'S A WEDDING JUNKIE!!! My sleepy fiance is experiencing catatonia and euphoria as she spends most of her time surfing the net rather than sleeping. Considering that the wedding day is about 3 months away. I wonder what happens to her when we only have a week?

Her focus on her w@wie yahoo group is immense! She reads everything that that group sends her. Its not bad I know. But she spends more time with the computer now a days than me. Makes me feel jealous! Anyhow we made some progress over the course of the week. Such as:

PRE-NUP PICS

My enthusiasm and frequent experimentation with my shiny old Sony Digicam finally paid of last Thursday, as we shot our first pre-nup pictorial. We can't wait any longer for CHITO VECINA to do our pictures, so we made the initiative to do it ourselves.

So at about 6:00am, we brought our early morning grumpiness to MANAMA SEASIDE PARK. With only our digicam in hand, we tried do our best to shoot our own pictures. First up on our time table is to shoot short clips of videos of us doing our thing. No story board here! We only played it by ear. And I tell you, its not easy to think in these early hours. We can only come up with the stereotypical VIDEOKE type mtv. We suck! But it was fun!

We took pictures of ourselves only by the use of the timer mode of the camera. We didnt even own a tripod! So we have to use any surface to put our camera on it. First, we used the bench. This is difficult since the bench doesnt have any 45 angle plane. I have to place it very carefully so as not to scratch the cam. After focusing I will time it, and then run towards Lany before it snaps a picture! Just like lighting a firecracker on new years day! It was fun at first. After the 5th time I can feel myself sweating and out of breath. The distance of the camera and Lanys location is several meters away, (it only looks near because of the cameras zoom). Its a helluva shoot man!

We took ourselves to different locations. One of my favorite place is under the short tree infront of the building near Sheraton Hotel. I mounted the camera on top of the grass. The image was gorgeous! The flat ground looked like a hill on picture! Something like the background picture of the Windows XP. the critter cam was really something! I posted a sample last night. Just scroll down and you'll see it.

There were 3 other locations the we shot at. The grassy park, the seaside, and the pathway bench. During the grassy park shoot, I used the Date tree branches to mount my cam. After the last picture the wind blew the branch and down came my digicam, craddle and all! (like a lullabye) In the next few locations I tried mounting it on a safer spot. The trash bin (that looks like a logged tree), and my hands (I make excellent photos shooting it this way. I never go out of focus or out of frame!).

At about 9am or 10, we called it a day, and went home to upload the pics on my pc. And they were all great! I wish I could show you all of it. The whole day, I made a home video of our movie clips. I thinks its terrific! There weren't so bad at all. With the music, its like time stood still while you watch it. COOL! I used PAUL WESTERBERG's DYSLEXIC HEART as the background score. Not much for the lyrics but the melody is cool!

Next time well by a tripod!

WEDDING RINGS

Its high time that we had it made. We went to GOLD SOUQ to have it forged. We picked an unconvetional design for it. We found a shop, with a nice Catholic Indian guy named John to forge our wedding bands. He is no Frodo Baggins but he was kind enough to give us a reasonable price and a good deal for it. "If you don't like how it was made you wont pay for it!" I will be finished in 10 days. We are crossing our fingers that it will look exactly the same as the one in the magazine.

We had a busy day. And there will be more busy days ahead. We just hope that the wedding will turn out the way we want it to be. I'm still worried about the requirements that has not been submitted to Paco Church. I'm crossing my fingers and my toes that our plans to get married wont be spoiled. GOD HELP US!

Thank God for trash cans! If it weren't for that thing we won't be able to shoot this picture. Unfortunately, the timer went off before I could pose for the cam. Nice hand? => Posted by Hello

First Pre-nup pictorial: "No need for a photographer!" We took this by ourselves using the timer function. If you are willing to do this you have to be physically prepared. Because there is a lot of running involved to beat the auto-timer. Guess who did most of the running?=> Posted by Hello

OLD FRIENDS

Just a while ago I recieved a mysterious call on my mobile. I was apprehensive to anywhere it 'coz the number doesn't show on screen. It only reads "Private Number" on it. It might be a wrong number, I keep telling myself. I'm phobic of obscence calls for everybodys info. Because there was a point in my life that my ex-girlfriend gave my number to hired stalkers (her girlfriends) to get back at me...HEY! HOLD THAT THOUGHT! I didn't do anything bad to her! She just cant swallow the fact that I broke up with her.

Anyways, I answered the phone. And to my surprise, its my old friend ADONIS SAMPANA! He's an old buddy of mine from highschool. And after HS we really didn't see each other. 11years man! I guess its really my fault that we didn't see each other. I drifted away from them because I got stupid... But I'm glad that he called. He said that he is trying to trace his old friends. Maybe trying to revive our old barkada. But I'm weelly weelly glad that he called! Thanks to his wife's unlimited capability to call toll free! You're an angel madam!

Don-don (Adonis) is now currently living in Milan Italy, and working as a bartender at a strip club. (Sorry I have to call it that. Its way too cool to call it that rather than a night club) He's living my alter ego as this macho-cool-bartender-at-a-strip-joint! Really cool! Now I'm asking myself why am I working at an embryology lab. Working in a confined workplace such as a laboratory sucks!

It's ironic that from the 11 years that we didn't see each other, we still can talk the same as when we were kids. For 30 mins all the memories that we had together flashed before my eyes. I still remember those afternoons when he would just drop by my house to pick me up. We would spend joyous hours riding his mini-bike all around Navotas and Malabon while we chit-chat. We would visit our friends and hang out. These are my fond memories of those carefree times. (sigh)

I'm still optimistic to find the rest of the gang. And maybe someday, somewhere, sometime I will get to see all of them. Especially Gigi (what's your surname na nga?), Agnes, Jay Cupcupin, Emerson Salientes and Bernardo Vasquez. Wherever you guys are, I want you to know that you still have a friend in me.

Burdado

This is the second time that we went to the designer. And this time its for the burda. The stone is an important part of a wedding dress. It can make the bride shimmer like a star or make her look like a BelleStar Dancer. She got to see a part of her burda. And the stones really shine like a crazy diamond! They will also set a nice looking ruby like stone...what the hell! its better than adobe or hollow block.

At home we browsed on our entourage and decided to redo the whole thing. I dont want to cross anybody out, but we have to do it. Wish us luck!

A million thanks to my very good friend and Best man... Dr. Philip Lopez for his valuable assistance and tireless effort to get us to the altar. Another million to Ria Ramirez, my cousin for her total support. And to my fiance's parents, thank you very much for everything that you are doing for us. (salute)

Virgin Post

Hello World!

We are so excited to make our first blog posting! My dear fiancee turned out to be a blog addict, and it gave me an idea to post our own crap online. Cool!

So what is this blog site all about? Duh?! Of course its all about us! We will also be sharing our day to day experience with our wedding preparations, random thoughts, irrational behavior, and irrelevant issues. So visit us and know what the "Honeyspot" is all about.

Ciao!
